Finals Weekend 2020 - Results

Finals weekend bowling summary

Open Ultimate Triples Final

The first competition to be decided (on Friday) was the Open Ultimate Triples league where Pink Floyd (John Pinson) and Simply Red (Brian Cookson) battled it out.  The format for the final involved all six players from each team split into two teams of three who played the first set and then played the other half of the team.  Simply Red got off to a great start winning the first two sets.  But Michael Barron’s rink (Pink Floyd) won the first set leaving John Pinson needing to win the second for a tie break.  Everything was looking good as they were holding 4 shots on a power play when Brian Cookson rolled in his last wood to take a one shot lead into the final end.

The bowls did not lie well for John and despite a valiant effort Simply Red took the last set to win 3/1.

Singles Semi-Finals

During Friday the semi finals of the singles were played and Ken Joy played consistently against Michael Barron who played his best bowls the day before losing 21/8.  The second game was closely contested between Jim Garner and John Pinson who got off to a strong start.  But he gave four away on one end which unsettled him and gave Jim additional confidence to win 21/15.

Open Australian Pairs Finals

Next up was the Open Australian Pairs final between Bob and Sue Harris and Jim Garner and Roy Cole.  This was a closely contested game running the full 2 and half hours before being called to a conclusion with the latter winning 17/13.  All four bowlers played well but both Sue Harris and Roy Cole bowled in some fantastic woods at key moments.  Roy is probably the most improved bowler this year!

Singles Finals

And last but not least Ken Joy took on Jim Garner in the singles final which again was closely contested and towards the end Ken was looking favourite holding two shots when Jim found a way through to hold two of his own.  Jim didn’t let go and ran out a 21/17 winner.

All the action was put on Facebook as it happened and during the presentation Jim thanked all those that had competed, helped and supported whilst accepting his trophies.

We look forward to a full season next year, fingers crossed!
